Make Your Room Stylish Using Curtains

Do you want to change the look of your room without spending a lot? Use curtains.

Of course your wallpaper, furniture, lights and wall paint can definitely transform your interior decor. But curtain design is something that you can do without much effort. You don’t need to spend a lot on curtains unlike other house accessories. What you just need is your natural sense of style. Because the truth of the matter is, the quickest and the most affordable way to change the mood and appearance of your house is through a little manipulation of curtains. And as easy as a short hocus-pocus you’ll feel the ambience of the room that you’ve always longed for.

Your curtain needs not be exaggerated or too flaunty, otherwise, it will be the center of attraction in your room. Although, indeed, curtains can sometimes be really elegant and embellished, they are not supposed to be the cream of the crop. You should know that curtains are an accessory (an important house accessory, though), and their function is to lighten up (or sometimes darken up) your room according to the mood you want. So you see, your room is the one that is valuable here.

If you plan to divert the attention in your room from the window towards a specific spot, say your favorite furniture or painting, it is suggested that you use a curtain with simple style and natural colors. A little manipulation on the way you tie your drapes would really be useful.

On the other hand, if your house is situated in a place with quite good scenery, you could opt to use the curtain to actually direct your visitors to the view outside without losing the spotlight on your own room. A more vibrant color or a more stylish drape will complement the view and your room well.

Colors are very important in choosing the best curtain. It is best that you select shades that are mixable with the colors present inside you room; your curtain has to blend with them. You also have to take into consideration the purpose of getting a curtain. Warm colors like red, yellow, and pink are sure to give your room a little zest. While cool colors like gray, white or blue are conducive for bedrooms. And lastly, you should choose the color that you like the most and that fits your mood well in order to feel comfortable with your room’s total aura.

As soon as you decided on what color to choose, then you can proceed to the next consideration, that is, length. There are different curtain lengths that you can choose from. One is the formal floor length, the one that perfectly reaches your floor; to-the-sill, which perfectly reaches your window sill; to-the-bottom-of-the-window-trim, which extends shortly below your sill; and the puddles-on-the-floor, which uses over-length drapes that create a romantic wave on the floor. Of course, these lengths have different uses: the formal are for living rooms and decorous areas (an office, for instance); both the second and the third kinds are perfect for a kitchen or bathroom window; and the last kind, obviously, are used to stir a romantic atmosphere.

You can also consider the extent to which the curtain will control the light coming in and coming out of your room. Laces produce a nice effect to soften the light entering your window. If you intend to darken your room, use a thicker fabric. Lined or insulated curtains are also best to avoid unwanted people from sneaking an eye on you.

But if your curtain is not really for your window, you might want to use string curtains. This type of drapes is usually used as a space separator or just for aesthetics. String curtains give the room a good sense of chic and elegance.

And finally, make sure that while designing your room with curtains, you do enjoy the whole process. Your happy mood will definitely reflect on the style that you will establish. And aside from that, the feeling of satisfaction that you’ll have at the end of each procedure will always make you feel more comfortable with what you came up with. And that’s what matters most.
